Technology Mission on Cotton
To improve the
availability of quality cotton at reasonable prices, the Government has launched
Technology Mission on Cotton during 1999-2000. The said mission, which has 4
mini missions is expected to bring about all round improvement in the
production, productivity & quality of cotton through research, transfer of
technology and improvement in the marketing and raw cotton processing sectors.
ICAR administers mini mission I (research), Dept. of Agriculture and cooperation
administers mini mission II, (technology transfer and extension services) and
Ministry of Textiles administers mini missions III & IV relating to cotton
marketing and processing respectively. On behalf of the MOT, the CCI Ltd. Mumbai
is the implementing agency for mini missions III & IV. Necessary funds have
been provided to CCI for this purpose.
