Technological innovations have always played a crucial role in the development of any industry and textile is no exception to that. The trajectory of growth of industry is determined to a great extent by the level of innovation that is taking place in the industry.   Recognising the importance of technological innovation in the globalised scenario, one whole day brainstorming session was organized on "technological innovations in textiles" on 30^th April, 2004 in New Delhi. The primary objective of this session was to create the awareness about the technological innovations, which are taking place in the organizations connected with textiles and the ways and means to commercialize the same. The session was attended by eminent academicians, experts from the industry and senior officials of Ministry of Textiles.   In one-day session 10 speakers including 3 from the industry presented their papers. A serious and meaningful discussion on the possible areas of technological innovations in textiles took place in the session to identify the core areas of research and direction of research in future. It was thought appropriate to compile the presentations made by the different experts for wide dissemination and reference / use of the different segments of the textile industry. This compilation would be found useful by the industry.
